Music Discovery: Lorde

When hearing new music I like to brush up on who the artist is and what they have to offer. I like to look for articles that say a little about them, what their influences are, and what other music they have out. This article that I came across is on the website of Interview magazine and is based on the new artist known as LordeIt contains three media components: print, video, and interactive.
In print, Lorde is introduced, you get her background, where she is from, what she is like, and what interested her in getting into music. I enjoy reading, so print to me seems more intimate, I find that people tend to be a little more honest on paper than in front of someone or on camera. If you really think about it, reports of someone sharing something personal is usually more when it is being written or typed, never really face to face. You get a sense of her personality more so than her look, which I find to be nice in a time where I feel most people enjoy the visual perspective. They also share the names of her songs and album, which helps if you are interested in finding her actual music.
The article also has her music video up for the song she is most known for, which is Royals. It provides the visuals of what most viewers are looking for. Not only do you get to hear her music but you also get to see her. It sets a tone for how her music is supposed to come across, and gives you a sense of what will be in store if you continue to tune in with her. I didn’t really care for the video as a whole myself, but I do like the camera quality and the way she looks.
You can share this page on multiple media sites. It also allows you to comment, as well as follow the source of the article. I also noticed that at the end of the page, there is a link to Lorde’s own website where you can listen to her Ep. If you are interested in reading other articles about music, there are several linking pages to other artists or events that have been covered by the magazine.
I find all components being helpful, the only thing I would change would be to provide another song that isn’t as common, and if they had links to other artists that were similar to Lorde. I do believe that this article had everything that a viewer would need to get to know an artist. They even provide a picture of her at the top of the page. I also like that the ads are very minimal, and actually flow with the website itself. I even feel that the media icons being placed throughout the article is a smart way to entice the viewer to want to follow and share what they have just read.
