What the hell is "The League of Legends"???

So a few years ago a friend of mine sent me a link to a new computer game that was just coming out called "League of Legends". It's a multi-player game where two teams of five players square off against each other on map with several towers defending a pair bases. The objective is to destroy these towers and ultimately destroy the enemy base while your opponent tries to do the same to you.

Now recently This game has become extremely popular with gamers and highly competitive, playing in the quarter final and beyond gets you access to a 5 million dollar pot. The League of legends world championships are happening in L.A. at the moment, with the semi finals this Friday and Saturday and the finals next Friday.

The championship series is being streamed online, on youtube, twitch.tv, A video game streaming website and several others and its being run like it were any other major sports broadcast, with analysts, commentators and announcers to cover the matches in real time. but it wasn't like this a few years ago when it was first coming on to the scene.

I want to take a look at how the rise of league of legends has changed the way its been covered and how its going to change how other esports are covered, and even how its drawing in viewers who aren't even specifically gamers.
